3 Different card techniques using the Dandelions & Dragonflies Die Set

Hello crafty friends, it's Terri back on the blog today to share an overview, along with some tips and ideas on how to use this fab Showcase set. This stamp and die combo is extremely versatile and I made 3 completely different cards with it and have barely scratched the surface of what can be created.

The set includes a stamp set with gorgeous images of dandelions, dragonflies and some lovely sentiments for all occasions. The die set has some dies that correspond to the stamps, to save you fussy cutting them, along with a series of intricate verso dies, plus some extra cute little dies like a butterfly and a tiny dragonfly.

Step 3

There are 4 half circle verso dies, with intricate dandelion and dragonfly detailing and a regular half circle. These half circle dies are perfect to use on Z fold cards (where the front of a side opening card is folded in half vertically) as they cut a beautiful pattern into the card, using the following steps.

Step 3

You can see here how I completed the above steps and then added speciality card stock over top, along with a frame, which we will come on to in a moment.

Step 3

There are two decorative edged dies that are a circular(ish) shape, which can be used on their own, to make a decorative topper, or in conjunction with one of the solid circle or scalloped circle dies included to make a frame. Below I have used one of the decorative dies on its own and also created a topper using the scalloped circle die and the two dragonfly verso dies. You can also see how I made a frame using the dragonfly circular die with the scalloped circle die to make a frame from the stunning holo waves mirror card.

Step 3

The addition of the circle dies to this set inspired me to create a circular aperture in the front of a square card blank and decorate both the front and the inside. This is a very easy concept but makes a really pretty card. I cut several of the dandelion verso dies into pieces of 300gsm white Craft Perfect and snipped out the dandelions, before adding them around the outside of my circle aperture. In between each of these I stamped a dandelion in blue mineral.

Step 3

To complete the card I created a simple pond scene for inside the card and added an identical frame to match the front of the card. A touch of Crystal glaze to the lily pad gives a lovely shiny effect. I first stamped the lotus flower onto a white scalloped circle, then stamped the lotus flower onto some masking paper and fussy cut that, placed it on top and then stamped the lily pad, to achieve the effect of the lotus flower sitting on top of the lily pad.

The images in the stamp set are perfect for heat embossing too. For one of my card samples I stamped and heat embossed in white embossing powder the two dandelion stamps, all over a 4 ¼ by 5 ½ inch card panel. I then chose 3 complementary colours of Nuvo hybrid ink and ink blended the entire panel, before wiping off any excess ink from the heat embossed dandelions. This made for a beautiful background for one of my cards.

In summary, this versatile set is perfect for:

• Making Z fold or fancy fold cards with the half circle verso dies

• Making aperture window cards and decorating the front and inside of your make

• Stamping and then heat embossing the pretty and elegant stamps

• Stamping and simply colouring the basic stamps

• Snipping out elements from the verso die cuts to add dimension to your make and to use creatively however you wish! (Though I personally love the classy look of white on white)

I hope you have enjoyed this overview of this fab Showcase set. I think it is incredibly versatile, especially with the sentiment stamps that are included. “You blow me away” is perfect for a card for your partner or someone who has just had a big achievement and “Flying by to say hi” is perfect for a thinking of you card, when you just want to let someone know that you care and lets face it, who wouldn't want to receive a card like that.

Happy crafting, Terri (VeegsTez Creates)
