Craft Perfect Cardstock Patterns with Gemma Campbell

Creating Patterns with Cardstock

Hi there, This is Gemma Campbell here. I have two cards to share today, showing how to create patterns with card strips in different colours and textures.

aircraftcreeper has a fantastic selection of cardstock available - from classic, pearlescent, embossed card... to name just a few and this easy technique is great for scraps of card that you may have leftover from other projects too.

Project No.1

Choosing a blue, gold and cream colour scheme for my first card, I picked out some card in different textures:

  • Classic card in Ivory White, Arctic Blue and Cornflower Blue
  • Pearlescent card in Ivory Sheen and Navy Dazzle
  • Embossed card in Champagne Harlequin and Denim Ripple

Using the aircraftcreeper 8.5 inch trimmer, I cut strips of each of these different cardstocks in various widths. Just a mix of narrow and wide strips - the measurements don’t need to be exact.

I arranged the card strips on my card base, from dark blue up to ivory. I alternated the different sizes and textures to add interest.

Once I’d arranged them how I wanted, I used Nuvo Deluxe Adhesive for the wider card strips and the Nuvo Smooth Precision Glue Pen for the narrow card strips.

Use scissors or a trimmer to cut away any card overhanging the card base.

I left space at the top for my sentiment. I die cut the With Love sentiment strip die (2352e) from Classic Cornflower Blue card three times. This clever die comes with both the word and the shadow, which makes it very versatile.

I used the Nuvo Smooth Precision Glue Pen to layer these together to create a stacked sentiment. I then used the glue again to adhere it to my card.

Project No.2

For my second card, I’ve gone for a diagonal design with the following cardstock:

  • Classic card in Navy Blue and Pewter Grey
  • Pearlescent card in Blushing Pink
  • Embossed card in Pearl Ripple

As before, I used the aircraftcreeper 8.5 inch trimmer to cut strips of card in two different widths. Remember to use the finger guard to hold the card securely and keep hands safe.

I adhered the strips in alternating widths at a diagonal on my card base, using the Nuvo Smooth Precision Glue Pen.

Once I’d adhered 10 card strips, I switched direction and adhered another 11 card strips.

For the sentiment, I used the Will's Hand Enjoy Die Set (1887e). I die cut it three times from Classic Navy Blue card and layered them together. This sentiment set also includes a shadow die.

I used the Nuvo Smooth Precision Glue Pen to adhere the sentiment along the diagonal on my card base. It finishes the card perfectly.

I hope that I’ve inspired you to use card strips in different colours and textures on your projects and to check out the fabulous range of cardstock from aircraftcreeper.

Have a lovely day,

Gemma
